A sure fire way to cut on certain items is to simply make them yourself. I have one recipe for an item that just about everyone uses. Pancake syrup. Yup, and its really simple to make. Think 1-1-1. That’s it.

1 Cup Of Water

1 Cup of Brown Sugar

1 Cup of White Sugar

Bring 1 Cup of water to a boil, then stir in 1 Cup of Brown Sugar until it dissolves, then repeat process with 1 Cup of White Sugar. You can also add 1/2 -1 Teaspoon of vanilla or maple extract (or flavoring). Bu the fun thing is you can mix it up from batch to batch. You can add cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, or a touch of ground cloves. One of my favorites is Hazelnut flavoring. You can add just about anything else yummy that you like. For you more adventurous types you can even add a bit of coffee or Rum. You decide. For a thicker syrup, add 1/2 – 1 cup of Karo Corn Syrup, depending on desired thickness. You already know how expensive syrup is, so this is one way to save big time. Instead of dolling out extra dollars on an item you can make at home. Its quick and for a fraction of the cost of store bought syrup. I usually double this recipe, using 2-2-2 water, brown sugar, and white sugar. Also, this is an easy and fun recipe to do with the kids.
